SPE Goes to School

Continuing study in the universities is the most appropriate dream that had by every students in senior high school. Most of them want to continue their study in the favourite universities both in the domestic or overseas. That is normal because they want to prepare their future as well and believe that choosing the universities is the most important step in going to the future. They must also be careful in choosing their majors which must be suitable with their interests. Choosing “the wrong majors” which means the majors that aren’t suitable with their interest will cause damages in studying in the university.

The fact shows that there still many high students in Indonesia that still confuse in choosing their next study places and majors. Even, many of them are confusing the fees in studying in the university because of their parent’s unability economically. Whereas, there have been many scholarships given by universities for them, moreover in Institut of Technology Bandung (ITB) which 70% of the students receive scholarships. This is just the lack of informations comes to high school students.

Concerning to this case, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter ITB, through Social Service Division was touched to conduct the event that will give facilities to high students about university informations, especially ITB and Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering (FTTM). This interesting event was called SPE GOES TO SCHOOL. With Muhamad Taufiq Hidayat (12210012) as the Project Manager, this event was held on the 3^rd week of September 2012 in SMA Alfa Centauri, Bandung. The choosing of this school was so proper that the school location was near to ITB but not many students in that school interested to continue their study in ITB, especially in FTTM. Many reasons caused this, like high passing grade, economic, fear, etc. So, SPE GOES TO SCHOOL explained to the 12 grade students in that school everything about life in ITB and FTTM.

The event was held by presenting everything about ITB and FTTM in very soft and enjoyable ways to the students in the classes. The presenters were the members of SPE-SC ITB, especially the Social Service families. The students then permited to ask everything. Fortunately, they were very interested to dig every informations they need, about life in ITB, career prospects, unit and organization activities, even about scholarships. After joining this event, most of them became interested to be part of ITB, especially FTTM.

This annual event will always be conducted twice every year because of the prestigious advantages that will be given to the high school students in different schools. Joining the committees in SPE GOES TO SCHOOL will teach and hone our skills in communication (of course in very special ways because we are talking to high school students with their hustles). So, keep smiling and caring to other.
